Aboriginal Futures is hosting an Information Session on June 26th on MNP’s Self-Employment Program.

Starting your own business is an exciting and daunting experience. To help you make the right choices, you want strategic advice from people who know small business. That’s where MNP can help. To assist those interested in starting a new business, MNP offers the Self-Employment Program in Calgary.

Participants in this program will receive business training in key areas such as:

  • Business Plan Development
  • Market Research
  • Human Resources
  • Operations & Risk Management
  • Marketing
  • Selling
  • Bookkeeping
  • Legal & Taxation

Participants receive one-on-one business plan assistance and up to one year of advising and consulting support from MNP professionals.

Since the Self-Employment Program is sponsored through the Government of Alberta and Government of Canada, there is no cost to you as the participant. There may also be income support available to those participants who qualify. The formal program is six months in length, however, participants will receive one year of coaching and consulting support from MNP professionals.

  • You are an unemployed or marginally employed Albertan 18 years of age or older including persons with disabilities, persons with cultural barriers, Aboriginal people and/or EI recipients
  • You have a viable business idea
  • You must have the capital or access to capital needed to start and operate your business
  • You have the skills and knowledge of the products or services pertaining to your new business
  • You are currently receiving regular Employment Insurance benefits, or have received regular Employment Insurance benefits within the past three years, or if you have received maternity / parental benefits within the past five years and the benefits have ended. There are limited spaces available if you do not meet the Employment Insurance qualifications
  • Please note there may be additional qualification criteria
