Program Description
The Oil and Gas Land Administration Program is a 31 week program
designed to provide 16 urban Aboriginals with training at an
entry level for full-time employment into the petroleum
industry. Students will receive 25 weeks of classroom training
and a six-week Work Practicum. Graduates from this program will
have acquired an understanding of the functions of the Land
Department within a petroleum company, the clerical skills
necessary to provide assistance and data entry skills in a Land
System Software Program. Upon successful completion of the
program, students will receive a SAIT certificate.
Eligibility and Prerequisites
Unemployed Aboriginals, residing in
Calgary who:
1) Are Employment Insurance (EI) participants who:

Have established an EI claim (active
claimant), or
-
Have ended a claim for EI benefits
within the previous 36 months (Reachback), or
-
Have received parental or maternity
benefits during the past 60 months to care for their children
and are now returning to work (Reachback), or
2) Are receiving Provincial Income and
Employment Benefits (commonly referred to as Social Assistance
or Welfare), or
3) Are unemployed and do not qualify for EI
or Income & Employment Benefits (Other Albertans)
Client Qualifications
1) A minimum of
grade 10 or equivalent in Math and English
2) Must qualify for income support funding
through Treaty Seven Economic Development Corporation, the Métis
Nation of Alberta or Alberta Human Resources and Employment (AHRE).
Client Asessment
Applicants for
the program will be assessed as follows: 1) T7EDC or MNA screen
all applicants and conduct income support review.
2) Qualifying clients are assessed by the
Program Coordinator using:
Application Process
Potential applicants should complete an application and submit a
current resume and an essay outlining the reasons for pursuing
this training. All must be received at the Information Session
or the day after. Each must also make an appointment with a
counselor at either Aboriginal Futures Career & Training Centre
or Métis Nation Employment Services. Only those who are referred
by their funding body will be considered for the next step – a
situational interview with the SAIT coordinators.
